I think McLaren Honda would be a great addition to the LMP1 grid

It would definitely add some variety to the LMP1 grid but doesn’t really make sense as running both an LMP and F1 program would be monumentally expensive; before Honda joined, Macca was spending ~$230MM per year on their program and Audi was spending roughly the same amount for their 2014 WEC season. And McLaren won’t leave F1 so it’s wishful thinking at this point :|

Maybe they should do both, since we’re talking about two companies, lol.

Seriously speaking, it isn’t just about money. Honda can easily support an F1 budget. But it wanted McLaren expertise, because starting a team from scratch again, takes time.

Honda could rework the base F1 engine into an endurance engine, and the costs of the P1 team could be shared.

In my opinion, what would they gain in LMP1? The P1 has already shown their Hybrid program is well sorted, aside from some plublicity that they kinda don’t need I personally don’t see what they would gain from doing so.
